`It is important to be very focused these days,` President Zelensky said in an online speech on May 4.

`A special praise goes to the fighters of the 110th mechanized brigade for today downing another Russian Su-25 aircraft in the Donetsk region,` Mr. Zelensky added.

President Zelensky did not provide further details about the incident.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has not commented on the above information.

According to the General Staff of Ukraine, Russia’s total losses in the all-out war with Ukraine amounted to 348 combat aircraft and 325 helicopters.

The Su-25 is a ground attack aircraft, designed to support ground forces both day and night.

As an attack force tasked with attacking Ukrainian targets on the ground, Russia’s Su-25 aircraft must face many challenges, especially from man-portable air defense missile systems (MANPADS) that the West uses.

In addition to a 30mm twin-barrel cannon with 250 shells, the Su-25 can carry more than 4 tons of ammunition, including missiles, rockets, guided and unguided bombs, and even additional artillery.

During the special military campaign in Ukraine, Russia often used Su-25 attack aircraft in close combat missions.

To avoid being detected by enemy radar, Russia’s Su-25 often flies low above the ground when on duty.

The fact that the Su-25 operates too close to the ground makes this aircraft a target for attack by the Ukrainian air defense system.

Russia is intensifying its attacks in many areas of Ukraine’s eastern front, covering much of Donetsk province, after taking control of the city of Avdiivka in February. Moscow is shifting its focus to Chasiv Yar,

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on May 4 that Russian forces are trying to advance in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Kupiansk, Novopavlivka and Avdiivka areas in eastern Ukraine.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu on May 3 announced that Russian forces `continued to break` Ukrainian defense positions along the entire front line.
