Russia launched accurate bullets, shooting down Ukraine’s state-of-the-art air defense complex

(Dan Tri) – Russia released a video recording an attack on the IRIS-T air defense system provided by Germany to Ukraine.

On May 3, the Russian Ministry of Defense released a video recorded from a drone, showing an attack on the IRIS-T air defense system provided by Germany to Ukraine.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said the system was discovered in a remote location near the village of Ostroverkhova, a settlement in the Kharkiv region, Ukraine.

The Ukrainian system was hit by two unidentified projectiles, possibly high-precision munitions launched from the Russian Tornado-S system.

The attack destroyed both the command and control vehicle as well as the launcher.

Germany has provided the IRIS-T system to Ukraine since the end of 2022. Russia claimed to have destroyed many of these systems during the fighting.

According to the introduction of the manufacturer – German defense company Diehl Defense – the IRIS-T medium-range air defense missile system includes a control center, radar and self-propelled missile launchers, designed to

In particular, the launcher is installed on a wheeled vehicle chassis (MAN 8×8, 4 active axles) or crawler (BvS10) carrying 4 or 8 launch tubes cum storage tubes, which can fire missiles in a straight line.

IRIS-T missile bullets destroy targets within a radius of 40km with a maximum firing ceiling of 20km.

The system has a CEAFAR GBMMR target-indicating radar station that uses active phased array technology, which can detect flying objects at a distance of up to 200km.

This missile system has two firing modes: target lock before firing and target lock after firing, allowing effective interception of targets at all angles (360 degrees), in many combat conditions.

Currently, in Ukraine’s air defense staff, IRIS-T is a pair of cards with the American-made Patriot system, forming a multi-layer fire grid.

Meanwhile, Russia’s `Fire Tornado` Tornado-S is considered a rival to the HIMARS system that the US granted to Ukraine.

Tornado-S has a greater attack range than HIMARS (120km compared to 80km) and is also capable of guiding each launched rocket.

`Fire God` HIMARS can fire 6 227mm GPS-guided rockets at a maximum distance of 80km and an accuracy of 5-10m.

Tornado-S uses a completely new fire control and guidance system (ASUNO) with a number of major improvements.
