Kushner: Underground channel connecting US-China

Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, is considered a key figure helping connect the leaders of Washington and Beijing.

Ahead of the summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Trump administration is actively discussing with Beijing about messages, policies and priorities in the US-China relationship.

According to The Washington Post, Mr. Jared Kushner’s high-level communication channel with China was established immediately after the US presidential election with the help of former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

Former US Secretary of State Kissinger met former national security adviser Michael Flynn, Mr. Kushner with Mr. Trump at Trump Tower in mid-November last year.

Mr. Kissinger met Mr. Xi on December 2.

Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, Mr. Trump’s daughter, are two highly influential figures in the White House.

But despite the above tensions, the communication channel that Mr. Kushner established was still maintained.

According to The Washington Post, this 36-year-old son-in-law was one of many advisers who persuaded Mr. Trump to reaffirm his commitment to the `one China` policy in a February phone call with Mr. Xi.

After the above meetings, Mr. Kushner is considered the main communication channel for Beijing to discuss important issues with the Trump administration, including arranging a summit meeting in Florida this weekend.

Observers believe that Mr. Trump’s attitude toward China will be reflected in statements on specific issues such as North Korea, the East Sea or trade that the White House will make after the summit this weekend.

According to The Washington Post, if Mr. Trump makes `concessions` and accepts China’s policies, it will not only be a sign of a new era in the two countries’ relationship, but also show that Mr. Kushner is a human being.
